Vintage American Primitive Handmade Tall Tribal Style Drum, Bass Wood & Cowhide
This vintage hand-carved primitive drum was produced from a single stump of bass wood. There are no screws or nails visible on the piece. The top of the drum is cowhide which was stretched over hand-carved knobs on the rim of the drum to create the drumming surface. The hide is only scraped clean on the top surface, with the hair still thick where it is secured around the rim and on the twisted hide handle on one side.
The piece sits on three sturdy, short legs and stands 35 1/2" high. The surface is 16" in diameter, while the entire top section extends to 18". It weighs approximate 12-15 lbs.
This item is in good condition but does show signs of wear from age and use. The wood was eaten with beetles before being turned into a drum and these sections are showing some deterioration. Please consult all images and message with any questions.
