I purchased this fantastic piece in Maryland, but I don't have room forit at my new house in Florida.
Description:
This is a fine bronze bust or head figure in the style of the famous “Ife” head found in 1938.
Beautiful patina.
My understanding of these pieces of art is that each one it unique, being made by the lost wax method.
I do not know the age as I bought at auction and the approximate age was not given. I believe modern-day copies are still made in Nigeria.
The style is similar to the mask of Obalufon (c1300).
I've enjoyed this piece in my library, but I am making room for actual books.
Measures 12.5” tall, about 8” deep and about 7” wide....pretty life size.
Weighs over 9 pounds.
I like this bust especially as it has an opening only at the neck rather than the head and neck.
I applied felt to the bottom so it wouldn't scratch my shelves
